Formerly known as the Isle of Wight Zoo, the multi-award-winning Wildheart Animal Sanctuary is the biggest animal sanctuary on the Isle of Wight, and is like no other. It’s a wildlife haven, set in the ruins of a Victorian fort, overlooking the glorious beaches of Sandown.

With a vast collection of exotic animals, two adventure play parks suitable for ages two upwards, quiz trails and loads of activities for the kids, an amazing café with views out to sea, a shop with local eco-friendly products and even an historic Palmerston fort to explore, which houses the last pump used to provide fuel to the D-day landing, the Sanctuary promises a truly wild and wonderful day out for the entire family!

This family owned garden and Model Village opened to to the public in 1952.  Now a Royal Horticultural Society Partner Garden we offer members the chance to enjoy this quirky setting.  We have slowly built a collection of 3,000 conifers and shrubs that are the envy of many. Set amongst the trees you will find faithful recreations of local buildings painstakingly crafted, with little Islanders adding a touch of humour here and there!

Come and see the airfield, working railway and mind bending model of the model of the model… Take up the Family Quiz challenge or Spot the Squirrels hidden around the garden to keep our smaller visitors on their toes.

Amazon World Zoo Park is a special kind of attraction. Here you can learn about conservation and rainforests and come face to face with some of the worlds most unusual, beautiful and endangered creatures. Try to spot the many species of tropical bird flying freely through the rainforest above your head or count the crocodiles in the pond. Amazon World are extremely proud to have recently launched their own charity… The Amazon Rainforst Conservation Centre (ARCC).

For nearly a century the Museum of Isle of Wight Geology, above Sandown Library, housed the Island’s geology and fossil collections.  On August 10th 2001 this changed with the opening of Dinosaur Isle, a purpose built interactive museum which replaced the old museum. Dinosaur Isle provides the space and facilities to properly display and conserve the rich geological collections. Dinosaur Isle is managed by the Isle of Wight Council and cost £2.7 million, half of which was provided by a Millennium Commission grant. The new museum is located on Culver Parade, a short distance from the old building, and was designed by local architects Rainey Petrie Johns in the shape of a giant pterodactyl.  The interior was designed by Leicester based Haley Sharpe Design, who employed an array of sub-contractors to make everything from showcases to rock re-constructions to full sized fleshed dinosaurs!
